After more than 20 years working in autorepair and watching other family members do it before him, Tim has pretty much seen everything a person can do to their vehicle. He's seen battered mufflers and drained batteries, alignments that should have been done two years before, and suspension systems that may as well have been pulled from cheap motel mattresses. Therefore, Tim would like to give you some advice.

First, when it comes to winter driving, make sure you change out your regular tires for snow tires. No, snow tires are not just some marketing invention of tire companies to sell more tires. The rubber on snow tires is actually softer. That means it heats up more quickly as you drive, and that heat makes the tires more flexible so that they do a better job gripping snowy and icy roads. Furthermore, although Tim knows your mom and dad probably told you this when they taught you to drive, it still bears repeating: slow down when you're driving in winter weather.

Second, one of the best things you can do to prolong the life of your tires is to make sure you rotate your tires regularly. Tires that haven't been rotated regularly wear unevenly, making them more prone to blowouts and premature aging.
